Treasurer Report
Our current balance is about $20k and we expect to receive another $13.5k in contributions from lake homeowners and from grants.
Our largest annual expense is for treating Eurasian Watermilfoil (we’ve averaged $19k/year the last 5 years). We’re budgeting $12k this year in hopes the treatment from last year was successful but we won’t know until the survey is conducted in late July/early Aug.
The annual support requested is $50 per lake home and $300 to support the Lake Health Fund. We average only $8,700 annually from 38 donors the last 5 years and we’re asking that all lake homeowners consider supporting our efforts.
Annual Boat Parade
Saturday, July 5 – please rally your family team for this fun event.
Ice Cream Social – Coming to your Dock!
Saturday, June 28 starting at 1 p.m. on the east side of the lake, Lake Board and Clearwater Forest members will be serving cool treats to anyone down on their dock. Please alert your family, kids, grandkids and be patient as we make our way around the lake. You’ll hear the traditional ice cream truck music as we approach.
Loon Nesting Platforms
The Zernov’s are retiring from managing the loon nesting platforms (they plan to manage 3 of the 9 platforms going forward). Anyone interested in helping with the other platforms should contact Jeff and Paulette.
Fisheries Update
There is a largemouth bass virus (LMBV) affecting this species and we have a photo in the presentation of the issue. The DNR requests they receive an email with photos if we find any largemouth bass with this issue.
The DNR will be on Clearwater the week of Aug 4th to conduct a fish survey (every 6 years) and preliminary data will be available by the end of Aug/early Sept.
The #1 action item lake homeowners can do to help the fisheries (and lake) is to have a buffer zone between your land and lake (10-50’).
Lake Management Initiatives
The DNR is scheduled to conduct their aquatic plant survey this summer (every 10 years). We do not have the dates for this survey.
Invasive aquatic plant survey will be conducted again this year in July/Aug by James Johnson, Aquatic Ecologist, of Freshwater Scientific Services. The survey report and treatment recommendations will be shared with all Lake Homeowners. We will apply for grant money to help with the expense of the survey and treatment.
The lake health and water quality data from 2024 show a healthy lake.
Water levels are down compared to last year. The DNR Area Hydrologist told us we’ve been in a drought since 2022 and expect water levels to be at this level unless we get some serious rain events for extended periods.
With low water levels, this season is ideal for planting any buffer zone vegetation on your property.
Board Elections
All Board members were up for re-election and all were unanimously renewed for a 2-year term.
Clearwater Forest Camp & Retreat Center Updates
Executive Director, Erin Anderson, shared the many ways Lake Homeowners can utilize their resources. These include lodging options for overnight or extended stays, Day Camp for kids/grandkids, hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and many retreat options available year-round. Please reach out or go online to learn more.
They have launched a capital campaign for a new Multi-Purpose Program Building that will help provide much-needed year-round indoor space to support a variety of programming options. This new facility is critical to Clearwater Forest’s long-term sustainability and all Lake Homeowners are encouraged to help support this effort.
The Board has approved providing the Camp with contact information of all lake homeowners and residents so that the Camp can send emails and other communications related to Camp activities, including their annual report, programming options, campaigns, etc. If you do not wish to receive any information from the Camp, please let the Board or the Camp know and you will be removed in advance and, of course, you can unsubscribe at any time.
