Summary

  • 42 people attend
  • We shared best practices for lake homeowners to control runoff from their property into the lake as well as presented some detail on controlling boat wakes and fish eating guidelines from the state.
  • Board election.  The lake homeowners approved re-electing the Board for another year.
  • Clearwater Forest Camp has a new Executive Director, Erin Anderson.  Erin introduced herself and shared the Camp’s summer plans.
  • The Camp also is hosting an Adventure-A-Thon & LuWow! Saturday, July 15th.  All Clearwater Lake homeowners and their families are invited.  There will be kayaking, mountain biking and trail running followed by a LuWow with a pig roast, live music by The Rusty Crayfish Brass Band and a silent auction.  The Board approved a $1,000 sponsorship of this event on behalf of our lake homeowners.  Please plan on attending some or all of this great lake-community event.
  • The Camp also is hosting an all-area community event on Saturday, July 15th.  They will have a late afternoon LuWow with a pig roast, live music by The Rusty Crayfish Brass Band and a silent auction.  All Clearwater Lake homeowners and their families are invited.  During the day the Camp will have an Adventure-A-Thon, which includes kayaking, mountain biking and trail running.  The Board approved a $1,000 sponsorship of this event on behalf of our lake homeowners.  Please plan on attending some or all of this great lake-community event.
  • Annual Boat Parade – Sunday, July 2; meet at 1 p.m. Loon Point.  If you and your family would like to be a judge, please reach out to Barb Schmitz [email protected].
  • The Board plans to create a Nokasippi river management task force/committee and is looking for participation from lake homeowners.  We would like to research and determine best practices for managing the outflow of the waters out of Clearwater into the Nokasippi.  This includes possibly outsourcing the monitoring of lake water levels, physically clearing any obstructions, determining the most sustainable approach for dealing with beaver dams, etc.  If you want to provide your input and/or join the task force, please reach out to Ron Green at 612.669.2362 or via email at [email protected].
  • Eurasian watermilfoil (EWM). We discussed the Board’s overall plan of monitoring and treatment options depending on scope of infestation each season and preference of preserving and nurturing native aquatic plants vs invasive aquatic plants.  We also confirmed that, under Minnesota law, aquatic plants growing in public waters are the property of the state of MN.  The DNR requires homeowner approval for any herbicide treatment within 150’ of a homeowner’s lake shore; the DNR does not require any homeowner approval for hand-pulling invasive aquatic plants in any part of a lake.  There was healthy discussion and the vast majority of the lake homeowner’s preferred minimizing the presence of EWM in the lake and using hand-pulling as a treatment method vs herbicide (unless EWM infestation scope and cost warrant herbicide and the Board would then authorize the newer, more selective herbicide that targets EWM). The lake homeowners also voted to authorize the Board to make the determination of best treatment approach, including hand pulling without the homeowner's approval, along with prior communication of any treatment plan to the lake homeowners.
